Samsung may launch the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, the toned-down variant of the existing Samsung Galaxy S23, in September. The smartphone has been a part of the rumor mill for a while, though the company has yet to confirm its launch. The “fan-edition” (FE) series is typically more affordable than the flagship series, so we can expect the Galaxy S23 FE to be cheaper than the Galaxy S23. Its key specifications have also been leaked ahead of the announcement.
According to reports, the Galaxy S23 FE will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or an Exynos 2200 chipset, depending on the region where the phone launches. Both are a few generations old but still quite powerful, so the Galaxy S23 FE should be able to handle most tasks easily. The phone is expected to offer up to 256GB of storage and a 4,500mAh battery.
The upcoming smartphone will sport a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen with a silky-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The display will feature narrow bezels and a Samsung-typical “Infinity-U” design, with the fingerprint sensor under the camera. The device is also rumored to offer a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a versatile 12MP telephoto lens. Its front camera will reportedly feature a 10MP shooter for selfies and video calls.
On the software side, the Galaxy S23 FE is tipped to run One UI 5.1 based on Android 13 out of the box. It is also tipped to provide four years of OS updates and five years of security patches. Samsung is also said to offer a dedicated IP rating for the Galaxy S23 FE, which will give the phone some dust and water resistance.
As for the design, the Galaxy S23 FE is expected to borrow a lot from the Galaxy A54 5G released in March. It will look almost identical at first glance, with the only noticeable difference being the placement of the flash – on the base model; it’s aligned with the top camera sensor. However, a recent leak suggests that the LED flash on the Galaxy S23 FE will be placed between the two cameras. This will give the device a more balanced aesthetic.
