Carly Rae Jepsen has finally dropped her new album Day and Night, a double album featuring 24 songs that embody two different sides of the singer-songwriter. Day and Night, which was released on September 18 via Interscope Records, is Jepsen’s ninth album, and it comes after her 2022 album The Loneliest Time.
The record consists of two 12-song sides called “Day” and “Night” that embody opposites musically. “Day” tends to lean in a warmer, more organic rhythmic, psychedelic pop direction while “Night” heads toward a more synth-heavy dance direction that pays homage to French house, and italo disco and old-fashioned pop. She revealed that the concept came about naturally, as her songwriting was heading in both directions.
For the Day section, the opening song is “After All” and it flows through tracks such as “Habits of Creatures, ” “Versailles, ” “On Wires, ” “Blue Skies, ” “Burning Heart, ” “Wild Child, ” “Good Fine Alright, ” “Something Tragic, ” “Soft, ” “Lonely Side of the Bed” and “Just a Little Walk on the Moon”. The songs within the Day section are about love loving memories and the self; all delivered through a softer and more organic approach.
The second, ‘Night’, half becomes more lively. It includes “Never Let a Good Thing Die”, “Amalfi Coast”, “Patience Power Passion”, “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor”, “Motivation”, “You Don’t Know How It Feels”, “Near or Far”, “Diver”, “Hold Me to the Light”, “That’s Just Me”, “No Labels, I Love You” and “Super Sage”. It heavily relies on electronic sounds and club beats with a darker feel.
Multiple songs were released before the official release of the entire album. Jepsen’s single, On Wires, provided the primary indicator of the comforting Day side to come. The song itself explores the more heated stages of infatuationthe idea of being overtaken by love, as Jepsen puts it.
‘After All’ was released in July and was even more personal and intimate in its exploration of love and motherhood. Jepsen wrote ‘After All’ while contemplating the impact motherhood would have on her sense of self and decisions to live her life a certain way. During the shooting of the video for the song, it took on an even more personal meaning because Jepsen was pregnant. She was also already married to her husband and collaborator, Cole M.G.N.
The latest of the albums focus tracks is “Versailles” which takes its inspiration from Marie Antoinette directed by Sofia Coppola. Jepsen co wrote this with Elias Kapari, Noonie Bao and Markus Krunegrd with Kapari also producing. The video for “Versailles” was filmed in LA and was directed by Kanya Iwana.
Aside from the music, Day and Night also befits a significant other-up in Jepsen’s life. In 2025, she exchanged vows with co-producer Cole M.G.N. and in 2026, became a mother. These events have helped shape the album’s topics of dedication closeness kinship, and psychological development.
The physical release is equally eye-catching, as the release is available digitally with CD and vinyl editions, which include different special-coloured editions. Interscope has also released a signed edition of the CD, On top of numerous collectible versions on the singer/rapper’s online store.
